Size target:
Minimum: 40‑gallon breeder tank (36 in L × 18 in W × 18 in H).
Better: 4 ft L × 2 ft W × 2 ft H (about 120 gallons).
Type:
Glass reptile tank with front‑opening doors or screen top.
Or PVC/wood reptile enclosure from budget brands.
Ventilation:
Ensure good airflow—screen top or built‑in vents.
Options:
Reptile carpet (washable, reusable).
Non‑adhesive vinyl flooring cut to size.
Install:
Lay vinyl or carpet flat, with no wrinkles.
Keep a spare piece to swap during cleaning.
3A – Basking heat
Use a dedicated basking bulb (75–100W) in a ceramic‑socket dome fixture.
Mount above basking area, outside the enclosure if possible.
Control:
Use a dimmer or thermostat if needed to fine‑tune temps.
3B – UVB tube (recommended)
Get a T5 HO UVB tube (e.g., 10–12% strength) with a reflector.
Length: at least half the enclosure.
Placement:
Mount inside the enclosure near the top, above the basking area.
Distance from basking spot: usually 10–14 in (follow bulb guidelines).
Basking structure:
Commercial basking rock or branch.
Height adjusted for correct basking temperature.
Hides:
One on the cool side, one near the middle.
Layout:
Hot side: basking rock, UVB overhead.
Cool side: hide, water dish, more shade.
Middle: climbing branch, food dish.
Use at least two digital thermometers (hot and cool side).
Optional: infrared temp gun for spot checks.
Cleaning:
Spot‑clean daily.
Deep clean decor and substrate regularly.
